In 1985, the company of Fleetwood produced a set of Commemorative Covers called Epic Events in American History featuring the artwork of Mort Kunstler. Shown here is one of these covers highlighting the world-famous Riverboat Races between the Robert E. Lee and the Natchez. On a commemorative cover the only reason the stamp is on the envelope is because the USPS will not cancel unless there is current postage. The cancellation is from St. Louis, since the races would take place from New Orleans to St. Louis. The date of the 4th of July freeezes our nation's birthday.
The stunning full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) shows the Robert E. Lee leading the Natchez by three hours with typical Kunstler precision.
Matted in green, this piece will fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***A short blurb on this event included***
