On August 3, 1998, the USPS issued a stamp honoring legendary movie director Alfred Hitchcock. His movies scared us, thrilled us and kept us coming back for more. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Los Angeles) on the first day of issue, captioned above. In short, it's the "birthday" of the stamp - collectible, historic, a great addition to your wall. Note the clever cancellation.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features the master himself rendered in water color. A quick note about this stamp: This is the first US die-cut stamp. If you look closely at Hitchcock's famous profile on the left-hand side, the white is actually the envelope showing through the cut! ... Another reason this is so collectible.
Double Matted in blue & white, this piece is sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
