On April 9, 1982, the Philippines Postal Service issued two stamps to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of Bataan Day. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover with both full-color stamps cancelled from the city of issue (Mariveles, Philippines) on the first day of issue captioned above. Every April 9th, people of the Philippines retrace parts of the 55-mile route where over 24,000 soldiers and civilians died.
The cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a drawing of General Douglas MacArthur and his quote to the heroes of Bataan & Corregidor, "I do not know the dignity of their birth, but I do know the glory of their death..."
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
