On May 13, 1981, the Summer Isles of Scotland issued a set of four stamps to commemorate 1981 as the Butterfly Conservation year. The four different speicies are joined by a fifth, the Dark Green Fritillary - shown on the cachet (artwork on the envelope.)
This handsome First Day Cover was issued from the Summer Isles on the "birthday" of the stamps captioned above. Note the lovely butterfly cancellation. Whenever a set of multiple stamps are issued and the complete set is on the First Day Cover, it makes that cover even more special and collectible.
Matted in dark green, this piece will fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. For anyone who loves the magic of butterflies, this is truly a unique gift.
