Bluesman.....

On May 17, 1969, the USPS issued a stamp to honor the "Father of the Blues" W.C. Handy on the 150th Anniversary of the City of Memphis, celebrated by Handy's famous composition The Memphis Blues.  Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover with his stamp (a plate block of four) cancelled from the city of issue (Memphis, TN) on the first day of issue captioned above. The blue-toned cachet (artwork on the envelope) shows Handy and the sheet music for The Memphis Blues.  Up at the top is a 'riverboat' formed from the words "Sesquicentennial Memphis 1819-1969."

Joining this piece of postal memorabilia is a full-color art print titled "Bluesman" by American artist Benny Andrews.  The blue and red tones of the print perfectly reflect the blue, red and purple of the stamps.

Matted in blue,  it's sized to fit a standard 11x14 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
