On April 27, 1994, the USPS issued a set of ten stamps to commemorate Stars of the Silent Screen. One of these was the brilliant star of comedy & tragedy...Zasu Pitts. The stamp features the artwork of noted cartoonist, Al Hirschfeld. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp cancelled from the city of issue (San Francisco, Ca.) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a portrait of Pitts. Ironically, she is best known for having Popeye's girlfriend, Olive Oyl, patterend after her sleek figure and sing-song voice. Collectible, historic, this cover is a piece of early movie and postal memorabilia.
Double matted in blue & white, this piece will fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included plus a short bio of Zasu Pitts***
