The year 2003 marked the 100th Anniversary of the New York Yankees. Shown here is a genuine Commemorative Postal Cover, an envelope with the date April 8, 2003 and the place (Bronx, New York) "frozen in time", marking the Opening Day of the Centennial Year. Note the special postmark featuring a baseball and bat created for this one special day. On a Commemorative Cover, the stamp merely serves the purpose of supplying current postage, for, without it, the post office would not cancel.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) is a 'triple play'...showing Babe Ruth, Derek Jeter, and Yankee Stadium. The Yankees logo with the 100th anniversary date appears in the lower right corner. Paired with this collectible, historic cover is a black & white photo print of Yankee Stadium as it appeared on opening day in 1923, also the year the Yankees won their first World Series.
