On May 26, 1994, the USPS issued a set of three stamps to commemorate the 1994 World Cup Soccer Games, hosted for the first time by the United States. Shown here is a genuine Postal Cover, an envelope with all three stamps in the form of a Souvenir Sheet (stamps surrounded by extra artwork), cancelled from one of the host cities (Washington DC) on the first day of issue captioned above. The officail city of issue was East Rutherford, NJ; each host city was allowed to cancel this set of stamps on the first day of issue. The artwork on the souvenir sheet depicts a map of the US, showing each of the host cities as well as the names of all participating countries. Note the special cancellation of the US Capitol designed to cancel these stamps, particularly from Washington DC, on their 'birthday.'
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) is in the form of a hologram about 2 inches square, featuring a soccer player trying to score and goalie trying to prevent it, against the backdrop of the net. The colors are intense, one of the best holograms we've ever seen. Wall Art Collectibles is pleased to prsent this unique piece of Soccer Postal Memorabilia...historic and collectible.
Triple matted in blue & white, this piece is sized to fit a standard 11x14 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
