On May 2, 1996, the USPS issued a set of twenty stamps to commemorate the 1996 Summer Olympic CentennialGames being hosted for the first time by the city of Atlanta. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp for Women's Sailboarding cancelled from the city of issue (Washington DC) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) as well as the brightly colored stamp features a woman sailboarding. The sport was first introduced to the Olympics in 1984, and as a separate women's event in 1992. The producer of this cover has also included a short commentary about this sport. Historic, collectible, this is a beautiful cover celebrating a sport that requires strength, dexterity, and coordination. It is the only US stamp for this sport.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Plus Commentary Included ***
