Women's Softball made its Olympic debut during the 1996 Centennial Summer Games held in Atlanta, Georgia. Developed by G.W. Hancock of Chicago, softball was first devised as an indoor alternative to baseball.  Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover in the form of a Proof Card.  Printed on heavy stock paper, the full-color stamp depicting a catcher is cancelled from the city of issue (Washington DC) on the first day of issue (May 2, 1996.

The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) featuring a woman at bat is surrounded by an embossed border.  Also included is a short commentary about Women's Softball, a truly, American Game. 

Matted in blue,  this piece is matted to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame.  ***Certificate of Authenticity and Commentary Included***
