On June 11, 1992, the USPS issued a set of five stamps commemorating the Summer Olympic Games of 1992. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, a maximum card with the stamp for Women's Gymnastics, first premiering at the 1928 Olympics, cancelled from the city of issue (Baltimore, MD) on the first day of issue captioned above. A Maximum Card is made of heavy stock paper with artwork taking up the entire card, hence the word 'maximum' meaning maximum artwork. On a 'Maxi Card', the words "First Day of Issue" are not added so as not to interfere with the art. On the back of the card, a short commentary describes the history of Women's Gymnastics and indicates that it is indeed cancelled on the First Day of Issue.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features woman gymnast on the balance beam. Historic, collectible, this is a great piece of Olympic Memorabilia.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity and Commentary Included ***
