Woman's Suffrage Combo.... On August 26, 1995, the USPS issued a
stamp to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to
vote. Shown here is a genuine First
Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from
the city of issue (Washington DC) on the first day of issue
captioned above. The addition of three older stamps - added to the
envelope uncancelled and then cancelled along with the new stamp on its
'birthday' - elevate this 1st Day Cover to a Combo. The three older stamps begin with the
1948 stamp honoring Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Carrie Catt and Lucretia
Mott. The 6-cents stamp issued in 1970 commemorates the 50th
anniversary of the 19th amendment. The oldest stamp is a 3-cents stamp
honoring Susan B. Anthony and was issued in 1936.
The color cachet
(artwork on the envelope) features a man trying to prevent a woman from
voting. The picture is printed on silk and 'framed' with an
embossed gold border. This is one of several collectible, historic
pieces of Woman's Rights and American History Memorabilia offered by Postal Stamp Art.
Double matted in blue & white, it's
sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of
Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
