On June 29, 1995, the USPS issed a set of 20 stamps commemorating people and events of the Civil War. One of these stamps honors Union General William Tecumseh Sherman. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Gettysburg) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a photo portrait of Sherman. A short commentary on Sherman is included.
