William Saroyan... The USPS honored author & playwright William Saroyan with a stamp in 1991in its ongoing literary arts series. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new U.S. stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Fresno, CA) on the first day of issue - May 22, 1991.
The cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a black & white portrait of Saroyan. The open book lists three Saroyan masterpieces - "The Daring Young Man on the Flying Trapeze", "The Human Comedy", and "Chance Meetings."
The commentary on the bottom reads, "Pulitzer Prize Winner for 'The
