William McPherson Allen led the Boeing Aircraft Company into successful production of strategic bombers, tankers, missiles and commercial jet transports, contributing to US dominance in air power. Shown here is a Commemorative Cover to celebrate his induction into the International Aerospace Hall of Fame in 1975.
On a Commemorative Cover, the stamp is immaterial; it's only there because the Post Office will not cancel unless there is current postage. On this cover an airmail Wright Brothers stamp issued in 1978 was used. The postmark is from Lolo, Montana, Allen's place of birth, on September 1, the anniversary of his birth.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a portrait of William McPerson Allen, and the 707, the plane on which he gambled 16 million dollars of Boeing's money to develop the first US jetliner. The gamble paid off! The producer of this cover has written a short commentary about Allen, which we, in turn, have included.
Matted in blue, this piece is sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included plus Commentary Included***
