On December 3, 1969, the USPS issued a stamp to honor noted American still-life artist, William Harnett. Known for his precise realism, his paintings reflect the trompe l'oeil technique that makes the viewer want to reach in and pluck an item off the 'wall.' Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with Harnett's stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Boston, Ma.) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a black & white reproduction of his stll-life, "Old Models", also represented on the stamp. Collectible, historic, this is a great piece of American art memorabilia.
It's double matted in blue & white and will fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
