In a career that spanned 40 years, William F. Halsey distinguished himself in WWI and again in WWII with his brilliant attacks against the enemy on the Marshall Islands and Wake Island. Awarded the Distinguished Service Medal, Halsey was eventually promoted to fleet admiral.
Shown here is a Commemorative Cover in the form of a Proof Card, bearing the postmark of October 30 from Elizabeth, NJ commemorating the anniversary of Halsey's. On a Commemorative Cover, the stamp serves the purpose of supplying postage, for without it, the post office would not furnish a cancellation. The two stamps used are the US Flag Stamp and the 1961 stamp commemorating the 50th anniversary of Naval Aviation.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a portrait of Halsey. Also included is a short commentary about the daring stategy of Halsey in the Pacific Theater. Historic, collectible, this is one of several pieces of US NAVY and WWII Postal Memorabilia offered by Wall Art Collectibles.
Matted in blue, this is matted to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity and Commentary Included***
