LIBERTY SHIPS SS Patrick Henry 1st Day Cover....
On
September 3, 1991, the USPS issued a set of ten stamps commemorating
the 50th Anniversary of ten different events of 1941 during WWII. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp honoring the Launching of the first Liberty Ship SS Patrick Henry, cancelled from the city of issue (Phoenix, AZ) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The cachet (artwork on the envelope) features the SS Patrick Henry,
the launching of the SS Patrick Henry, and several other configurations
of Liberty Ships. The text reads, "Liberty Ships - The Patrick Henry
was launched Sept. 27, 1941 at the Bethlehem-Fairfield Shipyard,
Baltimore, MD. The first of more than 2,700 Liberty-type cargo ships
operated by commercial shipping lines for the U.S. Maritime Commission
in World War II. On her maiden voyage she was the first U.S. ship to
pass through the Suez Canal after the war started. She was scrapped in
Baltimore in Oct. 1958." Collectible, historic, this is a great piece
of military and shipbuilding memorabilia.
Double matted in blue and white, this piece is sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included*** |
