On August 16, 1979, Canada issued a stamp to celebrate the sport of Women's Field Hockey and the Women's Field Hockey World Championship held in Vancouver. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Ottawa, Ontario) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features women athletes through the ages playing Field Hockey. The producer of this cover has also written a brief commentary about the sport and the 1979 Championship Games which took place from August 16 through August 30th. We have included a copy. To date there is no US stamp honoring Women's Field Hockey...the Canadians came through for this sport too.
