WILHELM BUSCH Comic Strips Max & Moritz Helene Germany 1st Day Postal Cover....

On April 15, 1982, the German Bundespost issued a stamp to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the birth of Wilhelm Busch - caricaturist, painter, poet, and inventor of the comic strip.  Shown here is a genuine Germany First Day Postal Cover, an envelope with the stamp, depicting the character Helene, cancelled from the city of issue (Bonn) on the first day of issue captioned above. Note the clever postmark, again with Helene, created to cancel this stamp on its 'birthday.'

The cachet (artwork on the envelope) features his drawings beginning with a self portrait at the top, Helene to the right and "Max & Moritz" at the bottom - a precursor to the modern comic strip and model for the "Katzenjammer Kids" comic strip - a matted 1st Day Cover for sale in our 'Comics Category.'  A facsimile of his signature plus other drawings complete the cachet.  Postal Stamp Art is proud to offer this little seen first day cover honoring Wilhelm Busch and his contribution to modern comics.

Double matted in blue and white, this piece is sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame.  ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
