Periodically two countries will issue a stamp (or stamps) jointly. On October 9, 1994, the U.S. issued two Crane stamps jointly with China. Shown here is a genuine Joint Issue - Dual Cancellation First Day Cover.....which means that it is an envelope with both U.S. stamps cancelled on the first day from the city of issue (Washington, DC), and the two Chinese stamps cancelled from China (sorry, I don't know the city) also on the first day. If you look at both cancellations, you'll see that the cancellation date of 10/09/94 is the same. In the case of a joint issue, there is always a grace period so both countries have the opportunity of sending their covers to the other country to have the same issue date.
The cachet (artwork on the envelope shows a Chinese drawing featuring cranes. The two stamps are of the Whooping Crane and the Black-Necked Crane. Joint Issue/Dual Cancellation First Day Covers are always collectible as well as historic.
Double matted in green & white, this piece will fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
