On June 13, 1987, the USPS issued a set of 50 stamps commemorating North American Wildlife. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp, depicting the Black Bear cancelled from the city of issue (the USPS Station set up in Toronto, Canada to coincide with the Canada Stamp Show) on the first day of issue captioned above. The addition of two other stamps - the West Virginia State Bird (Cardinal) and State Flower (Rhododendron Maximum), and the distinctive West Virginia State Flag, make this a Combo....an extra special first day cover. The two older stamps were added to the envelope along with the new one and then all three were cancelled on the 'birthday' of the Black Bear Stamp.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope produced by a private company, not the post office) features artwork of a Black Bear by noted wildlife artist Dan Balke. The producer of this cover has also written a brief commentary about this omnivore, which we've included.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
