Lieutenant Vincent Capodanno , a Catholic Chaplain, gave his life in Vietnam after administering last rites to the dying, giving medical aid to the wounded and encouraging the valiant Marines he rushed in to help. He received the Medal of Honor and the Purple Heart as well as other medals for his bravery.
Shown here is a Commemorative Cover in the form of a Proof Card, bearing the postmark of February 13 from Staten Island, NY, commemorating the anniversary of Capodanno's birth. On a Commemorative Cover, the stamp serves the purpose of supplying postage, for without it, the post office would not furnish a cancellation. The two stamps used are the US Flag Stamp and the 1979 Vietnam Veterans Stamp.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a portrait of Capodanno, the Medal of Honor, and Capodanno in his role of chaplain in Vietnam. Also included is a short commentary about the heroism of Father Vince. Historic, collectible, this is one of several pieces of Vietnam and US Navy Postal Memorabilia offered by Wall Art Collectibles.
Matted in blue, this is matted to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity and Commentary Included***
