On September 1, 1982, the USPS issued a stamp to honor a truly unique National Park...Wolf Trap Farm Park. Located near Vienna, Virginia, Wolf Trap was created in 1966, officially opened in 1971, and is the first and only U.S. cultural park, hosting concerts from classic to modern, opera, and dance. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Vienna, VA) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope produced by a private company, not the post office) depicts philanthropist Catherine Filene Shouse, whose generaous donations made Wolf Trap possible, as well as a view of the theater, a classical conductor, a jazz musician, and a pair of dancers. The producer of this cover has written a commentary about Wolf Trap, which we've iincluded.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
