On October 29, 1991, the USPS issued an imprinted postcard with the imprint or "stamp" commemorating the 200th Anniversary of the University of Vermont, located in Burlington, Vermont and founded by Ira Allen, older brother of Ethan Allen, leader of the Green Mountain Boys. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, in this case a postcard with the imprint or "stamp" cancelled from the city of issue (Burlington, VT) the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) depicts Old Mill. Built in 1825, it has the distinction of having had its cornerstone laid by the Marquis de Lafayette on his return visit to America. It is also featured on the stamp. The company that produced the cover wrote a short history of the university and Old Mill. We have included a copy for you.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY INCLUDED***
