On January 23, 1992, the USPS issued an imprinted postcard with the imprint or "stamp" commemorating the Centennial of the University of Chicago. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, in this case a postcard with the imprint or "stamp" cancelled from the city of issue (Chicago, IL) the first day of issue captioned above. Note the special postmark designed for first day cancellations featuring an outline of Cobb Hall.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) depicts beautiful Cobb Hall, the first building erected on campus and also shown on the "stamp." Architect Henry I. Cobb infused the building with many pleasing Gothic elements. Ironically, the building was named for Chicago pioneer and philanthropist Silas B. Cobb. The cachet is printed on silk, the luster lending an-almost three dimensional quality to the picture.
Double matted in green & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY INCLUDED***
