On June 14, 1991, the USPS issued an imprinted postcard with the imprint or "stamp" commemorating the 100th Anniversary of The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, the oldest medical school building west of the Mississippi River. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, in this case a postcard with the imprint or "stamp" cancelled from the city of issue (Galveston, TX) the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) as well as the 'stamp' depicts "Old Red," the landmark building that once housed the entire Medical Department - thirteen faculty members and twenty-three students. The company that produced this cover has also written a brief commentary about this venerable institution, which we've included.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY PLUS COMMENTARY INCLUDED***
