Shown here is a full-color photo print of the Lone Sailor Memorial in Washington D.C. A Navy Honor Guard provdes the ceremonial dedication on June 23, 1987 with color and dignity. We've joined this photo with an uncancelled, collectible 1945 stamp that features WWII sailors and honors the U.S. Navy.
The making of this statue has an interesting history...the bronze was mixed with artifacts from eight US Navy ships, spanning the Navy's history. Small pieces of copper sheeting, spikes, hammock hooks and other fragments came from post-revolutionary frigates the USS Constitution and USS Constellation; the steamer Hartford, flagship of Admiral David G. Farragut during the Civil War; the battleship USS Maine; steamer-sailing ship USS Ranger; WWII -era cruiser the USS Biloxi; aircraft carrier USS Hancock; and nuclear-powered submarine USS Seawolf. The final addition to the bronze was a National Defense Medal, a personal decoration given to sailors in war & peace.
Matted in blue, we've sized this piece to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame.
