USS Alaska (SSBN 732) - Ohio Class Submarine.....
On March 27, 2000, the USPS issued a stamp to commemorate the Ohio Class Submarine. This stamp was one of five issued in a prestige booklet to commemorate the Centennial of the U.S. Navy Submarine Force. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Groton, Ct.) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features an Ohio Class Sub - the USS Alaska (SSBN 732), commissioned January 12, 1985. Below the picture is written: "USS Alaska waits patiently for buoyancy as water is pumped into the dry dock at Naval Submarine Base, Bangor, Washington."
Double matted in blue & white, we've sized this piece to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
