West Point Bicentennial Cover-Million Dollar View Print-Four Stamps.... On March 16, 2002, the USPS issued a stamp, featuring the beautiful West Point insignia, to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Shown here is a First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (West Point, NY) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork
on the envelope - in this case an original piece of art created
expressly for this cover) depicts a cadet in dress uniform in the
forefront, with the chapel and the insignia of the Military Academy
further back. The artwork is rendered in watercolors by award-winning
cachet artist Sue Allen.
At the top of this piece is a photo print showing "The Million Dollar View," taken
from the West Point campus. Below the picture are four uncancelled US
stamps. On the left is the first US stamp issued to honor West Point
issued in 1937. It's followed by the 2000 stamp honoring Omar Bradley and the 1990 stamp honoring Dwight Eisenhower
- two West Point graduates. At the far right is the 1945 stamp
recognizing the US Army's contribution to the Allied victory in WWII.
It's a great gift for any West Point graduate, sure to be handed down to future generations since it celebrates a family's history.
Double matted in gray & white, it's sized to fit a standard 11x14 picture frame. ***CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY INCLUDED***
