The middle stamp is from 1945 and is the 1st stamp issued to commemorate the US Marines. It depicts the most celebrated event of US Marines history...the raising of the flag on Iwo Jima. The stamp on the left commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Marines landing on Tarawa in 1943. The stamp on the right, depicting the US flag, honors US Veterans; it was issued in 2001.
