On August 28, 1978, Bicentennial Ceremonies were held in New Bern, NC, to celebrate the 200th Anniversary of the US Coast Guard founded by Alexander Hamilton on August 4, 1790. Shown here is a genuine Commemorative Cover, an envelope with a lighthouse stamp representing currect postage, cancelled on the aforementioned date from New Bern. The only USCG anniversary stamp that was issued by the USPS, is the imprinted postcard celebrating the 175th anniversary in 1965. Note the special cancellation of the US Coast Guard insignia designed for this 200th anniversary celebration.
The color cachet (artwork on the envelope) shows a side view of the First Cutter...the Massachesetts. Historic, collectible....a must-have for a collector of Coast Guard memorabilia.
Double matted in green & white, we have sized it to fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
