On November 10, 1945, the USPS issued a stamp to honor the US Coast Guard, organized in 1790, for its heroic deeds during WWII. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the US Coast Guard Stamp cancelled from the city of issue (New York, NY) on the first day of issue (captioned above.)
The green-toned cachet (artwork on the envelope) mirrors the artwork depicted on the stamp. This cover was addressed, as so many were in 1945; we have covered the address with an uncancelled 1945 Coast Guard stamp in order to make this more visually appealing. This is only one of three stamps issued to honor the Coast Guard...the other two pices are imprinted postcards, the 'stamp' being an imprint. Collectible, historic, and getting hard to find due to its age and demand, this matted cover makes a wonderful gift for any man or woman having served in the US Coast Guard.
Double matted in green & white, we have sized it to fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
