On May 31, 2000, the USPS issued a set of four stamps honoring outstanding US Army Officers, one of which was Sgt.Alvin C. York. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Washington DC) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a portrait of York printed on silk. Drafted at the age of 30, York received the Croix de Guerre from France and the Medal of Honor from the United States, the two highest military decorations of each country. Historic, collectible, this cover is a great piece of US Army memorabilia.
Double matted in dark military green & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
