On September 22, 1948, the USPS issued a stamp to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Ft. Kearny as a stronghold on the Oregon Trail in what is now Nebraska. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Minden, Nebraska) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a statue of a US soldier. Historic, collectible, this cover is almost 60 years old, a great piece of US Army memorabilia.
Double matted in dark military green & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
