On January 28, 1997, the USPS issued a stamp to honor the first black brigadier general who campaigned for the end of racial discrimination in the armed forces, Benjamin Oliver Davis, Sr. His stamp is featured on a genuine FIRST DAY COVER, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the CITY OF ISSUE (Washington DC) on the FIRST DAY OF ITS ISSUE captioned above.
The full-color CACHET (artwork on the envelope) features a photo of Davis in WWII on an inspection tour of the American front in France in 1944. This is a collectible, historic piece of Black Heritage and US Military memorabilia.
Double matted in dark green & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY INCLUDED plus a short bio of Davis***
