West Point.... On May 26, 1937, the USPS for the first time issued a stamp to honor the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
The stamp depicts the National Landmark campus located on the west bank
of the Hudson River, its location considered by George Washington to be
the most strategic position in America. Shown here is a First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (West Point, NY) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The back and white cachet (artwork on the envelope) shows two photographs - one of the Cadet Chapel and another of 'the long gray line.' From Grant to Lee, from Pershing to Patton, from Eisenhower to Schwarzkopf, the graduates of West Point have been serving their country well since its inception on March 16, 1802.
This is a rare First Day Cover, as well as being collectible and historic too! It's a great gift
for any West Point graduate, sure to be handed down to future
generations since it celebrates a family's history. Since most First
Day Covers in 1937 were addressed, this one is no exception. We have
chosen to cover the type-written address with two 1937 West Point
stamps.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY INCLUDED***
