In 2004, the United Staes Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado celebrated its 50th Anniversary.  The USPS commemorated this event by issuing a stamp featuring its famous Cadet Chapel. Shown here is a Collector Panel, commissioned artwork on heavy card stock meant to display postage stamps in mint condition.

The SEVEN stamps chosen for this postal tribute tell the history of the Air Force....from WWI Captain Eddie Rickenbacker, America's "Ace of Aces"; to Billy Mitchell, outstanding combat air commander in WWI and strong proponent of an independent air force; and, "Hap" Arnold, taught to fly by the Wright Brothers and the first to hold the rank of General of the Air Force.  There are  two stamps both commemorating the 50th Anniversay of the Air Force...the 1957 stamp which starts with the inception of the U.S. Army's Signal Corps in 1907 and culminates with the establishment of the U.S. Air Force as its own separate service branch in 1947 and depicts a B-52 Stratofortress and three F-104 Starfighters; to the 1997 stamp celebrating the years as a separate service branch from 1947 to 1997 and depicting the world-famous Aerial Demonstration Squadron, the Thunderbirds in their F-16's.  The stamp honoring President Dwight D. Eisenhower pays tribute to the man who signed the Act of Congress establishing the U.S. Air Force Academy.

Matted in blue, this piece is matted to fit a standard 11 X 14 frame. ***A Commentary About Each Stamp is Included as well as a Short History of the Academy***
