On September 28, 1945, the USPS issued a stamp to honor the U.S. Army. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Washington, DC) on the first day of issue captioned above. The stamp shows US troops during the liberation of Paris with the Arc de Triomphe in the background.

The cachet (artwork on the envelope) features battle scenes at the Remagen Bridgehead. In 1945 in was customary to have First Day Covers addressed.  The system back then was that the collector was sent the envelope with the artwork; that collector was responsible for sending it to the city of issue to get the new stamp applied and cancelled on the first day.  If the collector did not supply an additional envelope, the cover had to be sent back through the mail.  Responsible people with an eye toward the future addressed the envelope back to them in pencil.  This is such an envelope.  Only upon close inspection is the address visible.  It in no way detracts from the appearance or value of the cover.  Collectible, historic, this is a great piece of U.S. Army memorabilia that is getting harder to find with every passing year.

Double matted in military green & white, this is matted to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame.  ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
