On September 20, 1985, the United Nations issued a stamp honoring the country of the former Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics, now Russia, with a stamp depicting the National Flag of the former USSR. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (United Nations, New York) on the first day of issue captioned above. Note the special cancellation designed to cancel this stamp on its 'birthday.'
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) celebrates the former USSR with several vignettes....from its Bolshoi Ballet and State Circus, to the unique architecture of the Kremlin, to the samovar. The producer of this cover has also written a brief commentary about the USSR - Russia, which we've included.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
