On November 1, 1997, the Republic of the Marshall Islands issued a set of 50 stamps to commemorate the Great Fighting Ships of the 50 States. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with five of the new stamps cancelled from the city of issue (Majuro) on the first day of issue captioned above. The five ships depicted here are the USS Virginia, the USS Washington, the USS West Virginia, the USS Wisconsin, and the USS Wyoming.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a close-up of the USS Virginia, used by the USN to fight the French for their provocations against the U.S. at the end of the 18th Century. Collectibe, historic this is a great example of Naval Memorabilia.
