On November 1, 1997, the Republic of the Marshall Islands issued a set of 50 stamps to commemorate the Great Fighting Ships of the 50 States. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with five of the new stamps cancelled from the city of issue (Majuro) on the first day of issue captioned above. The five ships depicted here are the USS Massachusettes, the USS Michigan, the USS Minnesota, the USS Mississippi, and the USS Missouri.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a close-up of the USS Mississippi, the flagship for Commodore Perry's voyage that opened up Japan to American trade. Collectibe, historic this is a great example of Naval Memorabilia.
Matted in blue, we've sized this piece to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity included plus a short blurb on each ship***
