On November 1, 1997, the Republic of the Marshall Islands issued a set of 50 stamps to commemorate the Great Fighting Ships of the 50 States. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with five of the new stamps cancelled from the city of issue (Majuro) on the first day of issue captioned above. The five ships depicted here are the USS Honolulu, the USS Idaho, the USS Illinois, the USS Indiana, and the USS Iowa.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a close-up of the USS Honolulu, whose greatest moment came during the Battle of Leyte Gulf. Collectible, historic this is a great example of Naval Memorabilia.
