THE RAISING OF THE FLAG ON IWO JIMA is one of the most famous photographs ever. Taken by Associated Press Photographer, Joe Rosenthal, this copy of the original photo is joined by THREE HISTORIC, COLLECTIBLE, UNCANCELLED US POSTAGE STAMPS. The middle stamp was issued in 1995 and commemorates the 50th anniversary of the aforementioned event. The stamp with the flag celebrates US Veterans; the stamp with the dog tag commemorates POWs and MIAs.
A note of interest: The US MARINES MEMORIAL in Washington D.C. (based on this phtograph) not only honors the name of the sculptor, but Rosenthal as well.
