On November 10, 2005 (the 230th Anniversay of the U.S. Marine Corps), the USPS issued a set of four different stamps honoring Distinguished Marines...John A. Lejeune, Lewis B. "Chesty" Puller, John Basilone, and Daniel J. Daly. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp honoring John A. Lejeune cancelled from the city of issue (Marine Barracks, Washington DC) on the first day of issue cancelled above. Note the special postmark created to cancel these stamps.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a portrait of Lejeune, a brilliant strategist and outstanding leader, awarded the Legion of Honor and the Croix de Guerre by France and the Distinguished Service Medals from the US Army and US Navy. The producer of this cover has also written a short biography on the back of the envelope; we have included a copy for you.
Double matted in dark Military Green & white, this piece is matted to a fit a standard * x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
