On November 10, 2005 (the 230th Anniversay of the U.S. Marine Corps), the USPS issued a set of four different stamps honoring Distinguished Marines...John A. Lejeune, Lewis B. "Chesty" Puller, John Basilone, and Daniel J. Daly. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp honoring John Basilone cancelled from the city of issue (Marine Barracks, Washington DC) on the first day of issue cancelled above. Note special postmark created for the cancellation of these stamps.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a portrait of Basilone, awarded the Medal of Honor for distinguished service at Guadalcanal. He was also awarded the Navy Cross and the Purple Heart posthumously for service at Iwo Jima. The producer of this cover has also written a short biography on the back of the envelope; we have included a copy for you.
Double matted in dark Military Green & white, this piece is matted to a fit a standard * x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
