Marines Raise Flag on Iwo Jima, Feb. 23, 1945.....
On September 2, 1995, the USPS issued a stamp to commemorate the U.S.Marines raising the flag on Iwo Jima in 1945. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Honolulu) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) is printed on silk and shows a slightly different view of the raising of the flag on Iwo Jima in the same vibrant colors as the stamp. This is a great piece of U.S. Marines and WWII memorabilia - beautifully presented and hard-to-find.
