On November 5, 1988, the USPS issued a stamp to honor the "Father of the Air Force" General H.H. 'Hap' Arnold, Commander of the Army Air Corps during WWII. Shown here is a First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Gladwyne, PA - his place of birth) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a portrait of Arnold, a Rockwell S-1 Bomber, and a B-17 Flying Fortress. In 1947, Arnold witnessed the creation of an independent Air Force. The producer of this cover has written a brief commentary about Arnold, which we've included.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY PLUS COMMENTARY INCLUDED***
