They're Out There.....
In July 1947, materials were discovered near Roswell, NM leading many to believe that they were the remains of an alien spacecraft. In subsequent years, Roswell has been associated with government cover-up, UFO encounters, and the widespread belief that 'We're Not Alone.' Shown here is a Commemorative Postal Cover celebrating the Roswell UFO Encounter '97 - the 50th Anniversary, the unique postmark depicting an alien and the number '50' on July 4, 1997, Roswell, NM. On a Commemorative Cover, the stamp or stamps are immaterial; it's all about the cancellation because it 'freezes a time and place that an event occurred. On this cover current postage is supplied by the 3 cents 1948 stamp for the Palomar Observatory, and the 29 cents stamp, one of five for Space Fantasy.
