Butterflies of the Reef........
On September 4, 2001, the Pitcairn Islands issued a set of four stamps called Butterflies of the Reef....four stamps each commemorating a different tropical fish found on the reefs surrounding the islands. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with a Souvenir Sheet with two of the four stamps cancelled from the city of issue (Adamstown) on the first day of issue captioned above. This Souvenir Sheet incorporates two stamps and is surrounded by extra artwork making a colorful underwater scene of fish and coral formations. The shape of the sheet takes on the shape of the fish on the upper right.
The cachet (artwork on the envelope) depicts another "Butterfly of the Reef' shown in full color. The entire envelope is a feast for the eye....a window into the beguiling underwater world of the reef.
Matted in blue, it's sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
